Artist's Statement: In my travels throughout India, Indonesia, and Manitoba’s wilderness parks, there are moments where I look up from the busy work of hiking, exploring or navigating, and spontaneously, everything stops. Moments where the power of the landscape, be it peaceful or chaotic, majestic or microscopic, brings a keen sense of being out of my self; totally immersed in the moment. All else, even a sense of identity, melts away. All there is to do is be still, and breathe and listen. I am curious about how landscapes provide unique opportunities to be completely present through their beauty or intensity.
We are proud in acknowledging that we are in Treaty 1 territory and that the land on which we gather is the traditional territory of Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene Peoples, and on the homeland of the Métis Nation. We respect the Treaties that were made on these territories, we acknowledge the harms and mistakes of the past, and we dedicate ourselves to move forward in partnership with Indigenous communities in a spirit of reconciliation and collaboration.
